Taksim Solidarity called for gathering at the Gezi Park on May 31st for the fifth anniversary of the Gezi Park protests, saying, “Gezi is everywhere we are… The darkness fades, Gezi remains.” In the early hours of morning, the park was surrounded by police barricades and security measures were increased in Taksim.
According to the protest programme announced during the press meeting at the Union of Chambers of Turkish Engineers and Architects (TMMOB) Istanbul Metropolitan Branch, Taksim Solidarity will march towards the Gezi Park on May 31, Thursday, at 19:99. Commemorations will be organized on June 2, at 11:00 at Çekmeköy Cemetery and on June 3 at Ataşehir Pir Sultan Abdal Cemevi for Mehmet Ayvalıtaş; who lost his life during the Gezi resistance. A march is organized at 15:00 on the same day as well.
Speaking at the press statement, architect Mücella Yapıcı said, “Chant a slogan, write a banner and take a picture, share it, bind a cloth on a tree, go out in the parks, organize forums, chat, sing our songs; wherever you are. Gezi is everywhere we are. Because we know that Abdullah Cömert, Mehmet Ayvalıtaş, Ali İsmail Korkmaz, Medeni Yıldırım, Ahmet Atakan, Hasan Ferit Gedik, Ethem Sarısülük, Berkin Elvan and Mehmet İstif are still looking at us. The darkness fades, Gezi remains!”
