Journalist Mehmet Baran Kılıç was sentenced to 1 year and 8 months in prison for his news report on Boğaziçi University Secretary General. Kılıç, who was acquitted of the defamation charge, was sentenced for “obtaining and disseminating personal data”. The court ruled for HAGB. Kılıç emphasized that the information he wrote was compiled from publicly available sources and said the decision was grave in terms of freedom of the press.
