HKP Chairman Nurullah Efe’s 1 year, 5 months and 15 days in prison sentence for “insulting the President” has been finalized. The Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office of the Court of Cassation stated that this conviction constituted an obstacle to political party membership according to the Political Parties Law No. 2820 and announced that Efe’s founding membership, membership and general chairmanship duties were terminated. HKP reacted strongly to the decision, arguing that the proceedings were legally invalid and stating that there was no legal basis for the dismissal of their chairman.
