Adana Metropolitan Mayor Zeydan Karalar’s appeal against his arrest was rejected by Istanbul 30th Criminal Court of First Instance within hours. Karalar had been arrested on July 7 as part of an operation against CHP municipalities, based on the testimony of a person who wanted to benefit from effective remorse. His lawyers had appealed, citing insufficient evidence and contradictions in the testimony. However, the court rejected the appeal, stating that the decision was in accordance with procedure and the law. Lawyer Hüseyin Ersöz said the swift rejection of the decision was an indication of the lack of an effective review.
