European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) found the application of academic Onur Bilge Kula, who was sentenced to a disciplinary penalty due to ‘attending a TV show without prior permission from the university’, rightful. The court sentenced 1500 Euros of moral compensation to be paid to Kula due to violation of freedom of expression regulated by Article 10 of the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR).
The administrative investigation opened against Mersin University faculty member Kula has also been concluded with a one-eighth salary cut against Kula and the penalty was turned into ‘reprimand’ after objection. The objection made at the administrative court on this penalty was denied.
