Kaos GL and May 17 Association documented rights violations against events and protests organized during Pride Month 2025. In many cities, especially Istanbul, Ankara and Izmir, marches and events were banned by governorate and district governorate decisions. 99 people were detained and 3 people were arrested. Detainees were subjected to torture, reverse handcuffs and strip searches. Members of the press and lawyers were also detained and prevented. At universities, marches were prevented by security forces, stair painting was censored, and students were investigated. Access to social media accounts was banned, LGBTI+’s were subjected to police surveillance even after detention.
