The access ban on Ekrem İmamoğlu’s X (formerly Twitter) account was taken to the Constitutional Court by the platform’s Turkish lawyer Gönenç Gürkaynak. Following the 765-page application submitted to the Istanbul 9th Criminal Judgeship of Peace on May 8, the Supreme Court was appealed on the grounds of freedom of expression and public interest. Following İmamoğlu’s “either justice or misery” post on April 24, an access ban was imposed and this decision drew great reaction from the public. The application is the first Constitutional Court case filed by X against violations of freedom of expression in Turkey.
