Following the unlawful cancellation of the March 31, 2019 elections, a lawsuit was filed against Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IBB) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu at the Istanbul Anatolian 7th Criminal Court of First Instance over “successively insulting public officials working as a board due to their duties” due to the press statement he held on November 4, 2019 after winning the elections for the second time. Charged due to allegedly “insulting” High Electoral Council members, İmamoğlu faces an imprisonment sentence for up to 4 years and one month.
