Free Women’s Movement (TJA) activist Pınar Işık, who was arrested within the operation on November 9 against Kurdish politicians and journalists, faces an imprisonment sentence for up to 20 years due to “the imminent danger criteria the country is currently in.”
The indictment, accepted by Diyarbakır 8th Assize Court, the charge of ‘illegal organization membership’ imposed against Işık was based on secret witness statements and her activism at TJA. Işık was further charged with ‘making illegal organization propaganda’ due to 29 social media posts. Another point that draws attentions in the indictment is the emphasis on “conjuncture” to penalize Işık. The Prosecutor stated, “when more than forty years of terrorist activities in the country are considered, imminent danger criteria is posed within the current case file.”
