Reporting the news on the videos of Sedat Peker with the headline, “Deep Relations,” Cumhuriyet Daily became a target of Interior Minister Soylu on social media. Soylu described the past of Cumhuriyet Daily as “dark” and claimed that Turkey now is not the Turkey that has been. “We will ask for an account,” Soylu said.
Among many allegations, Sedat Peker further stated that Elazığ Channel 23 reporter Yeldana Kaharman was raped by Justice and Development Party (AKP) Elazığ MP Tolga Ağar and was found dead at her home afterwards, and that the young journalist’s denouncement at the gendarmerie was hidden. Even though the Gendarmerie General Command made a statement and said that there was no denouncement made to them, suspicions increased after witnesses and photos on the close relations between the Gendarmerie General Commander Arif Çetin and Tolga Ağar.
