Muhammed Cihad Ebrari, who was detained during the protest against the arrest of People’s Democratic Party (HDP) MPs, was sentenced to 15 months of imprisonment. In the women’s protest organized in Kadıköy district of Istanbul, Ebrari was detained even though he wasn’t in the protest area and his backbone was broken due to the torture he was exposed to under custody. The court convicted Ebrari due to “making illegal organization propaganda” and did not defer the announcement of the verdict. HDP Istanbul MP Hüda Kaya spoke on the conviction of her son. “The proverb ‘the pot calling the kettle back’ is apparently just fitting for the events of these days. Torture and then convict. Just like making a criminal complaint against the poor mine worker in Soma after kicking him, having him convicted. They will not be able to silence us with these spoiled, arrogant tyrannies,” Kaya said.
