Bülent Şık Case

The 7th of our Judging the Judiciary cases focuses on Bülent Şık, who wrote about the cancer research which was covered up by the Ministry of Health. Assistant Professor Şık has published the results of the research, stating that ‘a scientist is responsible for the society above all, not for corporations or associations.’ Those who are responsible for endangering public health are clearly stated in the research. While those findings were not even investigated; Bülent Şık is accused of revealing ‘state secrets’ concerning cancerous chemical measurements. The prosecution has asked for a sentence up to 12 years of imprisonment.
