Eyük Debik, the trustee rector of Yıldız Technical University, has closed or suspended more than 11 clubs, including Yıldız Stage, Yıldız Cinema Club and Physics Club. The Student Culture and Solidarity Coordination Board stated that the reason for the closure was the alleged violation of the Constitution and YÖK legislation, but the real reason was the “We Want Safe Dormitories” declaration against the unsafe conditions in Cevizlibağ KYK Dormitory. The activities of the Debate, Women’s Studies, Animal Rights, Photography, Philosophy, Astronomy, Science Fiction and Fantasy Fiction and Medical Technologies clubs were suspended.
