During the Academic Year Opening Ceremony held at Ege University, members of the Student Collective who wanted to ask Justice Minister Yılmaz Tunç why the attackers with clubs at Hacettepe University had not been detained were themselves detained. Five students were beaten by private security guards and police officers and taken into custody. After undergoing procedures at the police station, the students were referred to the prosecutor’s office, where their statements were taken before they were released. The released students expressed their reaction in a statement made in front of the courthouse, saying, “How can students be detained when gangs with knives are free at Hacettepe?”
