Trustees were appointed to 23 companies and detention orders were issued for 29 people in an investigation by the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office into the Süleymancılar religious community. Prosecutors alleged that a criminal organization had been established under the leadership of community leader Alihan Kuriş and conducted the investigation on charges of “managing a criminal organization for profit,” “aggravated fraud,” “violating the Tax Procedure Law” and “laundering assets derived from crime.” Alihan Kuriş and his brother Hilmi Tuna Kuriş had previously been arrested as part of the investigation, a total of 81 people had been arrested, and 55 companies and four associations had been seized. The chief prosecutor’s office said it had obtained findings concerning unregistered money transfers, facilitating the acquisition of assets at below-value prices, and transporting cash in overseas aid shipments.
