The Young LGBT+ Association, operating in Izmir, was shut down on the grounds of “obscenity” based on social media posts. The Izmir 3rd Criminal Court of First Instance ruled to close the association, arguing that obscene content was shared on its social media accounts and that these posts violated moral values and the constitutional provision on the protection of families and children. The association requested that the case be dismissed, arguing that the posts fell under freedom of expression, but the court did not accept this defense. The association’s management announced that they would pursue all legal avenues against the decision.
