The first hearing of the case against lawyer Şiar Rişvanoğlu, a member of the Association of Contemporary Lawyers, on charges of “membership in an organization” was held at the Adana 11th Heavy Penal Court. Rişvanoğlu, who is being tried without detention, and his lawyers were present at the hearing. The sole witness in the case, Merdan Rüştü Ovalıoğlu, stated in his testimony given via SEGBIS that he had been directed to give his statement at the Ankara Police Headquarters and withdrew his previous statements. Ovalıoğlu stated that he did not know Rişvanoğlu and that his statement had been taken with the promise that he would be assisted with his case files. The defense lawyers requested an acquittal, stating that with the retraction of the witness statement, there was no evidence left against the defendant in the case file. The court lifted the judicial control measure against Rişvanoğlu and postponed the hearing until February 16.
