The second hearing of the lawsuit filed against BirGün executives İbrahim Aydın, Uğur Koç and Yaşar Gökdemir for the news article in which Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor Akın Gürlek was mentioned by name was held at Istanbul 23rd High Criminal Court. The prosecutor demanded separate sentences for the three journalists. The court ruled to continue the ban on leaving the country for Koç and Gökdemir and adjourned the trial to October 22. The journalists face charges of “insulting a public official” and “targeting terrorist organizations” with a prison sentence of 2 to 5 years. Political ban is also demanded for İbrahim Aydın.
