The Ministry of Interior extended the term of the trustee appointed to the Mardin Metropolitan Municipality by two more months on January 2. It was stated that the elected Mayor Ahmet Türk was acquitted in the “organization propaganda” case, which was cited as the reason for his removal from office. The injunctions filed by Ahmet Türk’s lawyers were rejected by the Mardin 1st Administrative Court and then by the Antep Regional Administrative Court on December 25. It was recalled that the Mardin Metropolitan Municipality has been administered by an administrator since 2016 and that three administrators have been appointed in place of Ahmet Türk.
