The reasoning behind the 4-year, 2-month prison sentence handed down to journalist Fatih Altaylı on charges of “threatening the president” has been announced. The Istanbul 26th Heavy Penal Court ruled that Altaylı had threatened President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan with assassination or murder through statements made on his YouTube channel. The court stated that the statements in question were shared openly with a wide audience and viewed hundreds of thousands of times, concluding that they constituted a threat.
