In the trial of journalist Cihat Polat and Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality Zoning Commission Member Attorney Mehmet Nazım Gençtürk, the prosecutor was transferred to a different post. In the case heard at the Kocaeli 12th Criminal Court of First Instance, the prosecutor requested acquittal in his opinion submitted in November, stating that the defendants had acted in the public interest in the context of combating illegal construction. About a week after this opinion, the prosecutor was reassigned and a new prosecutor was assigned to the case. In the case opened due to a news report about illegal construction belonging to Esra Yargıcı, sister of AKP Kocaeli Deputy Radiye Sezer Katırcıoğlu, and her husband Bülent Yargıcı, an expert report determined that the structure was unlicensed and violated zoning regulations. The court is expected to announce its decision after evaluating whether the new prosecutor will agree with the opinion during the hearing.
