An indictment was prepared against journalist Can Ataklı, demanding imprisonment from 1.5 to 4.5 years for his social media post claiming that MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli was intubated.
In the indictment prepared by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office, it was argued that Ataklı misled the public opinion and “disseminated false information in a way that is conducive to disrupting public peace”. It was stated that the statement “Bahçeli was intubated” was presented to the public without an official statement and in a precise language, and Ataklı was charged with the crime of “publicly disseminating misleading information in a qualified manner”.
