The Düzce Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office detained Fikret Albayrak, the CHP-affiliated mayor of Akçakoca, on May 22 as part of an embezzlement investigation. The prosecutor’s office accused Albayrak of securing financial gain from contractors and businesspeople in exchange for housing and construction permits. Police detained Albayrak during a roadside check in Afyonkarahisar and conducted searches at municipal subsidiaries.
