Mehmet Sait Yıldırım, a sick prisoner who has been held for 31 years at the İzmir Buca Kırıklar Type F Prison, has had his right to conditional release denied for the second time. The first postponement was made at the February 18th Administration and Observation Board meeting on the grounds that he was “not well-behaved” and “showed no remorse.” At the second meeting on November 25th, the same reasons were repeated, and Yıldırım’s release was postponed for another 9 months to August 27, 2026. Attorney Fatma Demirer objected to the board’s assessment that Yıldırım “continues to have ties to the organization,” but the Izmir 1st Enforcement Court rejected the objection. The court argued that the decision was procedurally sound, based on the board’s opinion that he “showed no remorse and could commit the same crime again.”
