The Journalists’ Association of Turkey (TGC) announced the 2025 Press Freedom Awards. While the award for individuals went to journalist-writer Adnan Özyalçıner and imprisoned journalists, the awards for institutions went to Halk TV, Now TV, Sözcü TV, Tele 1, Onlar TV and journalists Fatih Altaylı, Nevşin Mengü and Özlem Gürses.
TGC honored imprisoned journalists for their “insistence on writing the truth despite the pressures”. Institutional awards were given to publishers who continue to defend the public’s right to information despite heavy censorship and penalties.
The awards will be presented on July 24th, the Day of Struggle for Freedom of the Press.
