The trial of university student Mehmet Arda Irmak, who is on trial for protesting the arrest of Istanbul Metropolitan Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, was held at Balıkesir 6th Criminal Court of First Instance. The prosecutor demanded Irmak to be sentenced for “insulting the President”.
Balıkesir Bar Association President Hakan Topaloğlu and several lawyers from the Human Rights Center of the Bar Association defended Irmak, who is on trial without arrest. The court decided to hold the second hearing on October 15, 2025 at 11:30 am.
In a statement released by the Balıkesir Bar Association, it was emphasized that Irmak exercised her right to freedom of expression and the right to assembly and demonstration, that her right to a fair trial must be respected and that the process will be followed.
