The Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK) imposed administrative sanctions on 6 channels at the Supreme Council meeting where broadcast violations were evaluated.
Tele1 was fined at the upper limit for targeting public officials with unverified allegations in the “Journalists’ Desk” program, violating personal rights and broadcasting against the right to privacy.
SZC TV and Halk TV were fined for violating the principle of “impartiality” on the grounds that they broadcast the attack on CHP Chairman Özgür Özel without sufficient research and did not include the opinion of the party.
NOW TV was penalized for “hidden advertising” for the Disney+ platform, while YILDIZ EN and SERHAT TV were sanctioned for exceeding the teleshopping broadcast time.
RTÜK members Tuncay Keser and İlhan Taşçı described the fines as “intolerance of different voices”. “Turkey has gone down in history as a country where news is punished by RTÜK,” Taşçı said.
