Lawyer Rezan Epözdemir, who was detained on August 10 within the scope of two separate investigations conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office, was referred to the courthouse after the security procedures. Epözdemir is being investigated for “bribery”, “aiding FETÖ/PDY” and “political-military espionage”. Epözdemir’s file includes allegations of bribery worth 150 thousand dollars, WhatsApp message records and allegations regarding evacuation procedures. The investigation is being conducted under a confidentiality order. The incident sparked fierce debates within the ruling party around some names, especially Mehmet Uçum; Şamil Tayyar, Metin Külünk and Mücahit Birinci called for support to the prosecutor’s office, while Uçum denied the allegations.
