The DEM Party and democratic mass organizations in Cizre protested with a statement in the city against the alleged threats made by Police Chief Şuayip Öğdür against Cizre Co-Mayors Güler Tunç Yerebasan and Abdurahim Durmuş. The co-mayors stated that Police Chief Öğdür prevented them from attending a symposium in Şırnak, which Mesut Barzani also attended, and used insulting, abusive, and threatening language. DEM Party officials said that the “rude language” used by appointees against elected officials was unacceptable and that this attitude created pressure and distrust towards local government. DEM Party Şırnak Deputy Mehmet Zeki İrmez recalled President Erdoğan’s words about “centers sabotaging the process” and demanded that an administrative investigation be opened immediately into the threats against the co-chairs and that those responsible be held accountable.
