Marmaris Mayor Acar Ünlü faces prison sentence over incidents during a CHP protest march in Muğla on March 19, 2025, against the detention of Ekrem İmamoğlu. In the case filed against Ünlü, who was affected by pepper spray during the police intervention in front of the Muğla Courthouse and allegedly struck a police shield, the prosecutor requested a sentence of up to three years for “resisting an officer” and up to one year and two months for “publicly insulting a public official.” In the same case, a prison sentence was also sought for Nazım Şardoğan, the head of the Muğla Youth Branch of the Republican People’s Party (CHP). The Muğla 2nd Criminal Court of First Instance postponed the hearing until February 3, 2026, to allow time for the defense.
