On June 15, the Ankara Regional Court of Appeal upheld the 10-month prison sentence handed down to conscientious objector Mehmet Erkin Ekren on the grounds that he had evaded military conscription. The court merely corrected the term “deserter” in the verdict to “draft dodger.” With this decision, Ekren’s prison sentence became final.
