On July 31, Thursday evening, about 30 trans women were taken to the police station in Beyoğlu, Istanbul by the police on the grounds of GBT (General Information Collection). The women were kept waiting at the police station for hours without any justification and were pressured to turn off their cell phones. Activists Yankı and İris Mozalar stated that the incident was a part of systematic harassment and explained that their names were recorded, their videos were taken without their consent and they were subjected to regular fines under the Law on Misdemeanors. “They are officially labeling trans women,” Mozalar said, calling on the public to speak out against these attacks.
