37 citizens, who were on trial due to the protest they organised against the thermal power plant planned to be constructed in Gerze district of Sinop, were sentenced to 47 years and 10 months of imprisonment in total as well as 63 thousand Turkish Liras of penalty fine by Gerze Criminal Court of First Instance. The thermal power plant project was cancelled in 2015 after it was revealed to be against the Law of Forests.
