Aydın Metropolitan Mayor Özlem Çerçioğlu, who switched from the CHP to the AKP, filed five separate criminal complaints against journalist İsmail Saymaz.
Saymaz had raised allegations of bribery involving the Aydın Municipality on a television program, referring to a statement by Baki Nugay. Saymaz, drawing attention to Nugay’s statement that “I was asked to deposit money into the Aydınspor 1923 Association and a polling company to ensure payments were not delayed,” responded to Çerçioğlu by saying, “Did I call you a bribe-taker? Don’t complain about me, complain about the person who made that statement.”
The journalist commented that Çerçioğlu’s switch to the AKP was linked to these allegations and asked, “Is this justice?”
