An indictment was prepared against Kars Co-Mayor Ayhan Bilgen due to “disrupting the unity and the territorial integrity of the state,” “illegal organisation membership,” “making illegal organisation propaganda,” “establishing an illegal organisation with the aim to commit crimes” and “membership in an illegal organisation established to commit crimes.” The indictment, calling Özgür Gündem Daily the “spokesmanship tool” of the illegal organisation, was sent to Istanbul 24th Assize Court. The Prosecutor’s Office indicated that Bilgen was an Editorial Advisory Board member of the newspaper and that an investigation has been started against him in 2015; whereas his file was separated from the case file due to his Parliament membership. The court demanded the file to be merged with the Özgür Gündem Main Case file at Istanbul 23rd Assize Court.
