The court of appeal upheld the acquittal of defendant Erman Ekici for “crimes against humanity” in the case related to the 2015 ISIS attack in front of Ankara Train Station, in which 103 people lost their lives. Ankara Regional Court of Appeals rejected the lawyers’ appeal request, finding the verdict in accordance with the law. The October 10 Massacre Trial Lawyers’ Committee reacted by arguing that the verdict protects the real perpetrators and prevents the prosecution of public officials. The statement emphasized that the decision is a clear indication of the lack of recognition of ISIS as an organization that commits crimes against humanity.
