The first hearing of the lawsuit filed against Van Metropolitan Municipality Co-Mayor Neslihan Şedal for “inciting the public to hatred and hostility” did not yield a verdict. Van 10th Criminal Court of First Instance adjourned the hearing until December. Şedal demanded her acquittal, saying, “My words are a reaction to the understanding that ignores the will of the people.” The Van Bar Association President and lawyers from ÖHD stated that the case is an interference with freedom of expression and the right to engage in politics. His lawyer emphasized that the remarks were a political criticism of the AKP’s trustee policies.
