The 9th hearing of the case against journalist Hakkı Boltan on charges of “insulting the president” and “insulting a public official” was held on January 6 at the Diyarbakır 12th Criminal Court of First Instance. Boltan and his lawyer did not attend the hearing; the lawyer’s excuse was accepted. The court added the prosecutor’s opinion on the merits to the case file and granted time for the defense to respond to the opinion calling for Boltan’s punishment. The trial was postponed until April 14 at 11:50 a.m. Boltan is on trial for his Kurdish-language statement regarding journalist Rohat Aktaş, who lost his life in Cizre in 2016.
