New X-ray and security restrictions have been imposed on lawyers’ access to the Terrorism and Organized Crime Investigation Bureau at the Istanbul and Anadolu Courthouses. The Istanbul Bar Association reacted to the practice by calling it “an unlawful understanding that pushes the defense out of the judicial system”. Emphasizing that the right to defense is a constitutive element of the judiciary, the Bar Association announced that it has made a written application to the Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office and that it will take all legal action if no steps are taken.
