Tensions arose between the press and Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change Minister Murat Kurum during the TOKİ lottery ceremony and MÜSİAD program he attended on February 13. Journalists stated that Kurum’s team made it difficult for them to do their job throughout the day. During the photo shoot at the MÜSİAD program, a member of Kurum’s team told journalists to leave the hall. During the argument, security guards escorted Serkan Üldeş, a reporter for Son Kocaeli Gazetesi, out of the hall and closed the doors. Journalists reported that an attempt was made to assault Üldeş and that they intervened to prevent the situation from escalating. The Kocaeli branch of the Turkish Journalists’ Union condemned the intervention against members of the press and demanded that proceedings be initiated against those responsible.
