Mithat Yılmaz, former Mardin provincial executive of the Democratic Regions Party (DBP), was sentenced to 10 months in prison for chanting “Şehîd namirin” at the condolence service for journalists Nazım Daşdan and Cihan Bilgin, who were killed in a Turkish drone strike. Although the defenses demanded acquittal in the case held at Mardin 3rd High Criminal Court, the court accepted the charge of “making propaganda for an illegal organization”. The sentence was postponed with the decision to defer the announcement of the verdict (HAGB). The indictment referred to journalists as “members of the organization” and to the condolence service as a “so-called condolence service”.
