Workers from Doruk Madencilik and Elazığ Eti Gümüş, both affiliated with Yıldızlar SSS Holding, and their families were detained at the AKM Metro exit while trying to attend the AKP’s 25th-anniversary rally to make their voices heard. The miners were also detained on 13 August while trying to go to the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources over unpaid wages and compensation. In that protest, authorities ordered 84 people, including Bağımsız Maden-İş President Gökay Çakır and Organizing Specialist Başaran Aksu, to remain in custody. The union said it aimed to attend the rally with a delegation and convey the workers’ demands to President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
