Beyoğlu District Governorate banned all meetings, demonstrations, marches, press statements, leaflet distributions and sit-in protests in the district on July 1, 2025. In the statement of the District Governorate, it was stated that this decision was taken on the grounds that the calls for gatherings on social media may disrupt public order and social peace.
In line with the decision, Taksim Square, the Republic Monument, Gezi Park and İstiklal Street up to Galatasaray Square will be closed with barriers. If deemed necessary, pedestrian and vehicle traffic will also be closed at different points in the district.
The ban was based on Law No. 2911 on Meetings and Demonstrations and Provincial Administration Law No. 5442.
