The discourse to be organized by the Middle East Technical University (METU) Social Gender Studies Collective, under the title, “A Different Family Is Possible,” was not permitted by the rectorate due to the “relationship between a rainbow and the LGBT.” METU LGBTI+ Solidarity launched a statement and indicated that the university is a party in the EGERA Social Gender Sensitive Communication Convention and conducts academic studies on social gender, therefore the prevention of the discourse with the participation of LGBTI+ families is an academic intervention.
