July 24, Press Freedom Struggle Day, was met with intense censorship and oppression in Turkey this year as well. In the first six months of 2025, 31 journalists were arrested and 50 were detained. RTÜK imposed fines totaling over 25 million TL on Halk TV, NOW, SZC TV, and TELE 1, with SZC TV receiving a 10-day screen blackout penalty. CHP member Gizem Özcan stated that journalists are resisting oppression in the name of truth. Turkey has dropped to 159th place in the press freedom index.
