Journalists in Batman held a press conference in front of the Human Rights Monument on Gülistan Street. The statement was read by Veysi Demir, President of the Batman Independent Journalists Association. Demir said they found it unacceptable that prosecutors had filed charges against journalists for “spreading misleading information” and “inciting hatred and hostility” due to news reports criticizing a seminar. Demir protested the bar association’s stance, pointing out the contradiction in the Batman Bar Association signing a statement titled “Journalism is not a crime” two days after this complaint was filed.
