Swiss-based journalist Serkan Demirel said he was detained at the German border on the evening of August 1 and threatened at gunpoint. Demirel said he was taken to a police station near Aachen, where he was verbally informed by Turkish-speaking police officers that he was banned from entering Germany, but was not provided with any official documentation of the ban. On the morning of August 2, Demirel was deported to Switzerland via Freiburg and said he was forced to walk at gunpoint at the border.
