Journalist Sedef Kabaş was charged with “publicly disseminating misleading information” for her social media post about Central Bank Governor Fatih Karahan. On February 8, 2024, Kabaş shared Karahan’s remarks about the possibility of a post-election hike and stated in her statement that she quoted this information directly and shared it within the scope of freedom of expression. However, in the indictment, it was claimed that Karahan did not say these words and that the post amounted to “disseminating false information in a way that concerns the internal security of the country”. Kabaş faces 1 to 3 years in prison
