Journalist Öznur Değer was sentenced to 3 years, 4 months and 15 days in prison at Mardin 2nd Assize Court. Değer and her lawyers were not present at the hearing. The verdict was based on the evaluation of her journalistic activities and social media posts as “illegal organization propaganda”. The judicial crackdown on Değer has been criticized along with a growing trend of punishing Kurdish women journalists in particular.
