Journalist Ali Barış Kurt, who is being held at Maltepe No. 1 L-Type Closed Prison, stated in a statement made on February 23, 2026, that although he was supposed to be released in November 2025, he continues to be held in prison by decision of the Prison Administration and Observation Board. Kurt stated that his release was unanimously blocked on the grounds that he was “not remorseful” and that the enforcement court and the high criminal court found this decision appropriate. Kurt, who said he had been in prison for approximately 400 days, argued that the decision was unlawful.
